There is a Resident Assistant (RA) on each floor of the residence hall, and in strategic locations in Theme Housing, and the apartments. These upper-class students are trained to assist in developing a community conducive to student growth. If you have any problems, your RA may be able to help. In addition, each campus residence space has a Resident Director or House Manager who oversees the well-being of the whole building and is also there to assist the residents. The staff members are here to work with the residents in assuring that the enviornment of your hall is comfortable and conducive to learning. Programming can provide students with an avenue for stimulating their development socially, intellectually, physically, culturally, and spiritually. It encourages an environment conducive to studying, learning, and becoming more aware of oneself and those around us. The programs that the RA's at Thiel College plan and implement are focused on achieving these goals and building a strong, healthy community within the residence halls in which the students are living. The model that the RAs use to design their programs is called the Wellness Wheel. The Wellness Wheel is used in this context to describe a particular process through which the student becomes aware of and learns to make choices to develop a healthy lifestyle. It involves viewing the student as a whole person which includes mind, body and soul. The foundation of our definition of wellness lies within the development of a student's self-responsibility. Our goal in the Residence Life Department is to introduce opportunities for each student to become an active, responsible participant in his/her own health and well being. |
