GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Recognition from Forbes magazine, a state redevelopment grant, program achievement and students being featured on the “Today Show” mark some of 2018’s memories. Looking back on the year, the following are the Top 10 stories based on the number of views in the Thiel College newsroom, media attention and social media impact.

10. Brian Harris named new director of bands at Thiel College

July 17/ Thiel College hired Brain Harris as director of the Thiel Tomcat Marching Pride and Thiel College Concert Band.

9. Aspiring environmental engineer and doctor selected March Students of the Month

            Mar. 13/ Keegan Moss ’18, of Randolph, Ohio, and Korinna Sherman ’18, of Poland Ohio, as its March Students of the Month. Moss plans on pursuing engineering in graduate school and Sherman started medical school at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.

8. Thiel College earns third straight recognition on prestigious Colleges of Distinction list

            July 10/ Thiel College receives recognition for its committed implementation of high-impact educational practices, earning its title as one of the nation’s Colleges of Distinction.

7. Thiel and its education and business departments earn national recognition

            Jan. 19/ Both the Arthur McGonigal Department of Business Administration & Accounting and Department of Education were singled out for their innovative leadership in business and education programs.

6. Thiel College students get camera time on Today Show

            Oct. 19/ Thiel College students spent a day in New York City. As part of the trip, students toured Rockefeller Plaza and earned some screen time during a taping of the Today Show.

5. Thiel College recognizes 271 students for spring 2018 Dean’s List

            May 31/ 271 students who attained a grade point average of 3.4 or higher were named to the Deans List for the spring 2018 semester.

4. Thiel College makes exclusive Forbes 200 list for grateful graduates

            Sept. 25/ Forbes magazine singled out Thiel College for the second time in three years for the generosity of its graduates. Inclusion on the list signifies that a college has a history of producing graduates who consistently donate to their alma mater.

3. State awards Thiel College $1 million for renovations to College’s main academic space

            Aug. 30/ Thiel College received $1 million for improvements to laboratories, classrooms and common areas through a state Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program. Additionally, the funds will help create a community clinic for the communication sciences and disorders program.

2. Stamp dedication for Fred Rogers H’69 renews Thiel College’s connection to beloved TV host

            Mar. 23/ Thiel College renews its historic connection with the first-day-of-issue dedication ceremony for a U.S. postage stamp commemorating television’s most beloved children’s show host. In honor of the 50th anniversary of Fred Rodgers H’69 television show, “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” and what would have been his 90th birthday.

1. Mary Jones making her mark with the Thiel College football team

            Sept. 27/ Greenville, Pa. native Mary Jones ’22 was a first-year defensive back for the Thiel College football team. No definitive records exist, but Jones is believed to be the first female non-kicker in the program’s 100-plus year playing history.
