GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Armstrong High School senior Toby Atwood, of Kittanning, Pa., was awarded an academic scholarship worth $141,000 to Thiel College during a surprise presentation on Monday, Jan. 10 at her high school.
Atwood was one of five winners for 2022. Atwood and Alexis Brown, of Chesterland, Ohio and a senior at West Geauga High School, were the first recipients. The three remaining winners have yet to be announced. Atwood won the scholarship based on her performance at a scholarship competition in late 2021.
She plans to major in elementary and special education and Spanish.
Atwood was a four-year member of the varsity tennis team with three years playing No. 1 singles. She was a three-year member of the varsity wrestling team. She is a member of Spanish club, student council and National Honor Society. She also coaches youth wrestling. In the community, she is a member of Leo club, a youth organization of Lions Clubs International.
Atwood is the daughter of Joe and Brandi Atwood. She has two brothers, Jarret and Oggie.
