Kappa Sigma awards story

GREENVILLE, Pa.-- The Thiel College chapter of Kappa Sigma capped off its most successful two-year period by collecting 16 awards during the fraternity’s 71st Biennial Grand Conclave recently.

Current students and alumni represented Thiel College—a leading liberal arts college in northwest Pennsylvania—along with about 320 other chapters and colonies of Kappa Sigma Fraternity in Las Vegas in mid-July. The Thiel College chapter was recognized with 15 awards for the undergraduate chapter and its chapter officers and alumni for the 2016-17 academic year.

The most prestigious of these awards was the Founder’s Circle Award, which is the highest award given to Kappa Sigma chapters. It recognizes the “best of the best” at the undergraduate chapter level. Founders’ Circle winners excel in the areas of fellowship, leadership, scholarship and service. Less than 10 percent of Kappa Sigma’s 298 chapters receive this award each year.

Kappa Sigma hosts several fundraising and military recognition events annually. The fraternity raises money for the Military Heroes campaign with its annual 72-hour See-Saw-A-Thon and a week of military-themed events each spring, which includes a 21-gun salute, community service projects at the Greenville American Legion, and military memorabilia displays.
