Hanely, Harriman earn Thiel College November Student of the Month Honors

GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Thiel College announces Mariel Hanley ’20, of Pleasantville, Pa., and Courtney Harriman ’20, of Geneva, Ohio, as its November Students of the Month.

Hanely, a 2016 graduate of West Forest High School, is an accounting and business administration major with a finance focus.

Following graduation, Hanely plans to begin her career in accounting and become a certified public accountant.

She is a member of the Thiel Choir (serving as co-president), the chamber choir, the Dietrich Honors Institute, Lambda Sigma sophomore honorary society (serving as treasurer), Chi Alpha Epsilon national honorary for academic achievement, and the Pi Nu musical performing arts honorary (serving as vice-president of choir relations). She is also a member of Alpha Chi national college honor scholarship society (serving as treasurer), Chi Eta Sigma national commerce honorary society, Les Lauriers scholarship, leadership and service honorary society, and the Haller Enterprise Institute.

She is also a conversation leader for Thiel’s foreign exchange student program, an active member of St. Titus parish of Titusville, Pa., a tutor in the Thiel Learning Commons, and a writing lab tutor.  

Hanley is the daughter of Paula and Marty Haley, of Pleasantville, Pa.

Harriman, a 2016 graduate of Geneva High School, is a secondary education and mathematics major.

Following graduation, she plans to obtain employment as a high school math teacher and to enroll in a master’s program for education.

Harriman is treasurer of Kappa Delta Pi international honorary society in education, secretary of Kappa Mu Epsilon honor society in mathematics, a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the fitness club, Chi Alpha Sigma national college athlete honor society, a four-year member of the women’s basketball team, attends Bible study weekly and is a resident assistant. She received the President Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Sportsmanship Team Award in 2018.

She also helps with Greenville Elementary School’s Math Night through Kappa Delta Pi.

Harriman is the daughter of Gary and Cindy Harriman, of Geneva, Ohio.

The Student of the Month is awarded to seniors. It is among the most prestigious student awards at Thiel College, with only about six students each semester earning the honor.
