GREENVILLE, Pa.-- The Thiel College Department of Music and Theatre will collaborate with Campbell Memorial High School Singers for its 66th Annual Thiel Christmas Festival Concert at 4 p.m. Dec. 2 in the William A. Passavant Memorial Center.
The event includes light refreshments and is free and open to the public.
“Gloria!” is this year’s theme. The combined Thiel Choirs, the Thiel Wind Ensemble and the Campbell Memorial High School Singers are performing.
“The concert features four pieces magnifying the theme—most notably the first movement of the Vivaldi ‘Gloria’ and the full presentation of the Rutter ‘Gloria’ with a thrilling brass and percussion ensemble,” Director of Choral Activities Julie Neish, D.M.A., said. “Also featured is a Pentatonix style version of ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’ with vocal percussion, djembe, and electric bass, and a beautiful version of the seasonal classic ‘Silent Night.’”
The Thiel Wind Ensemble will be presenting two seasonal selections and the Thiel Choir will be joined by guest choir Campbell Memorial High School Singers on two selections, Neish said.
“For 66 years, the Thiel College Department of Music and Theatre has had the distinct privilege of ushering in the spirit of the season with music and worship for Greenville and our extended community of family and friends,” Chair of the Music and Theatre Department Pete Rydberg, Ph.D., said. “This season’s theme reflects our religious traditions as a Lutheran institution. We are thrilled to mark this first year having the concert band under the direction of Brian Harris, who has, along with Dr. Julie Neish and Pastor Jayne Thompson, crafted a memorable program as we move into the Christmas holiday.”
