Thiel College dedicates spaces in renovated science building and honors alumni

GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Thiel College celebrated the dedication of new classroom, laboratory and collaborative spaces Friday in the recently renovated Rhodehouse Science Building.

Rooms and facilities were dedicated in recognition of Diane and Frank Maenpa, Ph.D. ’69, H’21 and Theresa H’16 and Carl Hoffman Jr., D.O. ’69, H’10.

The ribbon cutting was held to dedicate the second floor of Rhodehouse Science Building as the Dr. Carl ’69 H’10 & Theresa Hoffman H’16 Biology Wing. In the wing, will be the Dr. Frank ’69 H’21 & Diane Maenpa Interdisciplinary Research Laboratory, Tallbacka Lecture Hall, Maenpa Lecture Hall and an Instrumentation Laboratory.

“This building will advance the College’s innovative programs in science and allied health. Our momentum can’t be stopped,” Thiel College President Susan Traverso, Ph.D. said.

The combination of a state-of-the-art science building combined with dedicated, skilled and committed faculty will continue the College’s long legacy of academic achievement, Traverso said.

State senator Michele Brooks and representatives Parke Wentling and Mark Longietti joined the more than 50 members of the Thiel College community, family members of the honorees and representatives of the contractors who attended the event.

The improvements at Rhodehouse Science Building include nearly $10 million in additions and renovations focused on science facilities at Thiel. The College received $1.7 million for improvements to laboratories, classrooms and common through a state Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program.

Traverso said local contractors and companies did all the work on the project.

“Not only are we producing graduates who will go on to benefit the region, but we are sparking economic activity in the region,” she said.
