GREENVILLE, Pa.-- The members of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity at Thiel College, a leading liberal arts college in northwest Pennsylvania, are wearing high heels and standing at the intersection of routes 18 and 58 to collect donations for a Mercer County domestic shelter today through Saturday.
The fraternity is participating in its inaugural “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” fundraiser.
Proceeds from their fundraising will be donated to the Mercer County domestic and sexual violence victims agency AWARE, Inc.
The members are collecting money along College Avenue. They will also be collecting in the same location from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
Following Saturday’s collection, the members will conduct a race in heels on campus near the Quad.
As part of receiving the “Its On Us PA” grant, the Thiel College community will be introducing a number of initiatives for education and awareness for faculty, staff and students for reporting incidents of sexual misconduct.
Thiel College is among 36 Pennsylvania postsecondary institutions that were recently awarded a portion of $1 million in grants to enhance and improve campus policies and programs in place to prevent sexual violence and harassment as part of Governor Tom Wolf's “It's On Us PA” campaign. More than 60 schools applied for funding.
