Thiel College Honors Convocation celebrating Ruth and David Miller ’61 and student achievement

GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College will recognize hundreds of students for academic achievement and will award honorary degrees to Professor of Economics and Business Administration and Norman P. Mortensen Endowed Chair of Economics David M. Miller ’61 and former campus nurse Ruth Ann Miller at 7 p.m. Friday, February 7 during its Academic Honors Convocation at William A. Passavant Memorial Center.

The event marks the academic accomplishments of Thiel College’s top students. Members of the top academic honorary society, Alpha Chi, will be recognized as will the achievements in scholarship, leadership, and innovation by other students.

David Miller ’61 has been a member of the Thiel College Department of Business Administration and Accounting, since 1963. He is also the Executive Director of the Haller Enterprise Institute and led the Business Department’s collaboration with the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. He was recently named the 2020 Thiel College Professor of the Year and served as inspiration for the David Miller ’61 Endowed Chair of Accounting. He is retiring at the end of the spring semester.

Ruth Ann Miller has been a dedicated member of the Thiel College community for more than 50 years. She served as substitute and full-time campus nurse from 1988–2014. She is the wife of Professor David Miller ’61 and was a nurturer of students, advocate for alumni and namesake for the Ruth A. Miller Seminar.

About Thiel College

Thiel College is an independent college founded in the Lutheran tradition. Located in Greenville, Pa., the College offers 60 majors and minors, 24 varsity sports, and an 11:1 student-faculty ratio. The College is also home to a Master of Science in speech-language pathology, a Leadership Master of Business Administration and a Management Master of Business Administration.
