GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Thiel College’s three Vira I. Heinz Scholarship for Women in Global Leadership winners will discuss at noon Nov. 6 their international experiences to complete the community engagement requirement of their scholarship.
In spring 2018, Thiel College awarded three scholarships to Quinn Ursprung ’20, of Bel Air, Md.; Samantha Kurchena ’20, of Bridgeville, Pa.; and Tanyra Williams ’19, of Cleveland, Ohio. The women will discuss global issues and how those issues relate on a local level. Various clubs, organizations, and individuals will also attend to share their ideas.
“Over the years we have sent dozens of young women out into the world because of this scholarship,” Thiel College Campus Coordinator for the program and Professor of Sociology Cynthia Sutton, Ph.D., said, “and we are privileged to witness the truly transformative nature of this experience for our young women.”
The application period for Thiel College female students who would like to apply for a Vira I. Heinz Scholarship for Women in Global Leadership for summer 2019 is open. Thiel College is one of just 14 institutions in the Vira I. Heinz Scholarship network. Scholarship winners get up to $5,000 to help pay for an international study abroad experience.
The three recipients of the scholarship will take classes or have an intensive internship in the country of their choosing.
