Apollo-Ridge senior wins Thiel College full-tuition scholarship

GREENVILLE, Pa.—Apollo-Ridge High School senior Hannah Stoughton, of Apollo, Pa., was awarded an academic scholarship worth $130,560 to Thiel College during a surprise presentation at the school on Wednesday, Dec. 9.

Stoughton was one of five winners for 2020 from among a field of 140 applicants. Paul was one of five winners for 2020 from among a field of 140 applicants. She joins Seneca Valley High School classmates Anna Paul, of Zelienople, Pa., and Sarahy Lopez, of Cranberry, Pa. Farrell High School classmates Brice Butler, of Farrell, Pa., and Gary Satterwhite III, of Farrell, Pa., were the final two winners announced on Dec. 15..

She plans to major in English or history and earn her secondary education teaching certificate.

 “I feel very blessed to have been chosen, and I owe it to my amazing parents and fantastic principal, guidance counselor, teachers and superintendent,” Stoughton said. “They always motivated me to be the best I could be, and I’m so thankful for all of them.”

Stoughton is a member of the National Honor Society and participated in math league, quiz bowl and Hometown HighQ television program, where she was the team captain. She was also active with marching band, the track team, cheerleading, the Pa. Junior Academy of Science and Future Problem Solvers.

Stoughton is the daughter of Misty Cramer and Scott Stoughton.
