Professor with geopolitical focus added to Department of Political Science

GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College announces that Michael A. Morgan, Ph.D., was appointed to the Department of Political Science as an assistant professor of political science. He will begin teaching this fall.

Most recently, Morgan served as a visiting professor in the department of political science at Marietta College and has also served as a graduate student instructor at the University of Kentucky. His primary research agenda focuses on international relations and comparative politics. He has taught classes on terrorism, sociology, American foreign policy, contemporary global conflicts and the international political economy.

In 2010, Morgan earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Marietta College. He went on to earn both a master’s degree and a doctorate in political science from the University of Kentucky in 2014 and 2015.

“Michael Morgan’s expertise in comparative and international politics will support our students’ increasing interest in global issues, world travel and world citizenship,” said Lynn Franken, Ph.D., vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college. “We are very pleased to welcome him to Thiel College.”

Morgan has received many honors and awards, including the College of Arts & Sciences Teaching Award in 2014 from the University of Kentucky. He is currently affiliated with the American Political Science Association, International Studies Association, Midwest Political Science Association and Southern Political Science Association. He has presented his academic research at many academic conferences and is working on scholarship covering United Nations peacekeeping coalitions and alliance formation, among others.
