GREENVILLE, Pa.—The Greenville Neuromodulation Center Faculty Student Research Institute will host a plenary session from 1-4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9 in which Thiel College students and faculty will present the research they conducted throughout the summer and previous academic year.

Director of the Greenville Neuromodulation Center Faculty/Student Research Institute and Assistant Professor of Biology Delbert Abi Abdallah, Ph.D., will open the session in the Lutheran Heritage Room of the Howard Miller Student Center that focuses on creativity, hands-on scholarly research and direct experiential learning. Attendees will hear presentations on research initiatives funded by the institute, as well as a keynote address by Greenville Neuromodulation Center Thiel College Visiting Scholar Marie Pollard, Ph.D., on her research using deep brain stimulation electrodes.

Pollard received her Ph.D. in neuroscience from the University of Oxford (Oxford, England) and is a neurophysiologist studying neurological circuits and mediators that translate to psychiatric disorders. Her presentation is titled “Local Field Potential Recordings for the Targeting of Deep Brain Stimulation Electrodes.”

“The annual research institute plenary session is designed to give student and faculty researchers the opportunity to share with the Thiel College community the fruits of their year-long or summer-long projects,” Abi Abdallah said. “Students and faculty are excited to share their data, results, and findings. This is a great occasion for our student researchers to highlight the great work performed at Thiel and a fantastic chance for the Thiel community to come and learn about this very important research initiative.”
