GREENVILLE, Pa.—The Thiel College cheerleaders placed first in the Eastern Division this weekend and received their second bid to the National Cheerleaders Association’s nationals to be held April 6–10 in Daytona Beach, Fla.
During the online competition, Thiel finished in front of teams from Tusculum University, University of Florida, the College of The Holy Cross and Auburn University at Montgomery.
“The Rally Competition made its debut last year and encompasses skills and material that you would typically see us performing on the sideline,” Thiel College coach Randall Burnett G’22 said. “This was a great way to start our competition season, and I am ecstatic to see all of our hard work being rewarded on a national level.”
The Tomcats continue to build their routine and develop skills they will need to be successful on the competition floor this April as they represent Thiel at NCA Nationals, Burnett said.
“Being on the competition floor is one of the most amazing experiences you will ever have, and for 2 minutes and 15 seconds, you own the floor, and all your work for the year is showcased in hopes of a zero-deduction routine,” Burnett said.
Burnett said he and the team are grateful for the support from the Thiel College athletics department, President Susan Traverso, Ph.D., and the College community.
In Daytona Beach, Thiel College will be competing against the nation’s top universities in hopes of winning the title of NCA Collegiate National Champion and taking home the golden megaphone trophy. At the event, Thiel College will perform oceanside on the bandshell in front of hundreds of fans and against 8–12 teams at the national event.
