GREENVILLE, Pa.—In tandem with Greenville, Pa. municipal government officials, Thiel College student Molly Shepler ’22 wrote new text for the town’s administrative code through her summer internship.

As an intern, Shepler spent the summer drafting chapters of administrative code for the Town of Greenville. The code covers topics including job responsibilities of town employees, personnel systems, town committee expectations, and a code of ethics. Upon completion, the document will be analyzed by the town solicitor and critiqued by the council. The code will be adopted as Greenville local law.

“Molly joined us with limited experience in municipal government. She is leaving with a new-found appreciation for local government and the experience of writing policies. By assisting with drafting the administrative code, Molly helped put together the ‘road map’ that will be used to guide the inner workings of the municipality for years to come,” Town of Greenville Manager Jasson Urey said. “Molly gained some very valuable career development experience, and the town gained much-needed help with preparing these policies. Together, we completed a project that would have otherwise not happened this summer. It has been a pleasure and joy to collaborate with Molly on this important project.”

Shepler, of Punxsutawney, Pa., is a 2018 graduate and valedictorian of Punxsutawney Area High School. She is majoring in English literature.

All Thiel College students have the opportunity to complete an internship for credit after their first semester. In order to create a well-rounded education for students, all graduates must complete either an internship or practicum.
