Assistant Professor of Psychology

The Thiel College Psychology Department invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor in Psychology beginning in the 2022-2023 academic year.

The Psychology Department’s mission is to (1) meet the needs of students preparing for careers in human services, social work, education, research, and other fields for which a background in psychology is necessary or desirable, (2) prepare students to continue their education at the graduate level, either in psychology or a related discipline, and (3) meet the needs of students pursuing a liberal arts education.  The undergraduate curriculum is focused on providing all students with a foundational knowledge base in the discipline while also allowing specialization.

Ideal candidates will have a doctorate in Psychology or a relevant field awarded before August 2022. ABD will be considered if the defense of the degree is imminent.  The area of psychology is open; however, we are seeking candidates with a primary emphasis on topics related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Ideal candidates will be knowledgeable regarding current findings, theoretical approaches and research strategies in the field, and will teach courses from the Psychology Department’s foundational areas, such as Introductory Psychology, History & Philosophy of Psychology, and Research Methods, teach courses from the Department’s seminar sequence, as well as courses from their own area of expertise, including Special Topics course.

As a liberal arts institution, Thiel College primarily emphasizes high quality teaching, including mentorship with individual students in research, internship/co-op supervision, career development, and serving as the primary academic advisor for psychology majors after the first year of employment. Faculty also participate in professional activities at the individual, departmental, institutional and community levels by remaining current in subject matter areas and instruction techniques, participating in curriculum development and in the review and assessment of programs and courses, and serving in campus governance and faculty organizations.

Please submit a letter of interest, current curriculum vitae, copy of graduate transcripts (official transcripts may be requested), a statement of teaching philosophy (including evidence of teaching effectiveness, if available), and contact information for three references.  Click here to apply (preferred method) or mail documents to: Jennifer Clark, Associate Director of Human Resources, Thiel College, 75 College Avenue, Greenville, PA 16125.

Review of applications will begin on December 13, 2021 and continue until the position is filled. Thiel College is committed to attracting culturally and professionally diverse faculty and staff who will engage our students while providing a holistic academic, athletic and co-curricular experience.
