Director of Theatre

Thiel College seeks creative, energetic, and highly motivated applicants for our full-time 10-month Director of Theatre position.

The director is responsible for building and sustaining a vibrant and inclusive undergraduate theatre program (2-3 productions per academic year), teaching theatre courses, recruiting and mentoring undergraduate students, and overseeing all aspects of the theatre program.

CHARACTERISTICS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Oversight and Development

  • Direct, design, and oversee all aspects of main stage productions (2-3 productions per academic year). 
  • Coordinate play selection process, auditions and casting, rehearsals, and productions.
  • Oversee theatre facilities (including coordinating outside use of the facility with the director of special events).
  • Managing operating budgets and planning for capital and long-terms purchases and projects.
  • Recruitment, selection, and supervision of student employees, professional assistants, and volunteers.

Teaching Responsibilities:

Teach four undergraduate classes per academic year, including activing, directing, technical theatre, theatre history, children’s theatre, and oral interpretation.

Recruitment Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the admissions office to recruit diverse cohorts of new students who are attracted to the opportunity to continue their involvement in the performing arts and motivated to succeed in college.
  • Recruit current students to participate in the theatre program.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate meetings for the College’s Performing Arts Council with other performing arts directors.
  • Serve as an active member of the campus community through participation in the academic, athletic, spiritual, and social life of the campus.
  • Perform outreach within the Greenville and surrounding communities.
  • Participate in programming like new student orientation, common hour, and other activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A Master’s of Fine Arts (MFA) or related degree is required. Preference will be given to candidates with experience with production, teaching, and recruitment.
