Eighty-seven Thiel College student-athletes recognized by PAC

Eighty-seven Thiel College student-athletes were recognized for academic achievement in the 2018-2019 year by the Presidents’ Athletic Conference.

New and prospective students on campus

Late June and early July have been busy for the Office of Admissions with three events in the span of a week and two more planned in July. New student orientations were held on June 24 and 28 while a visit day for prospective students was June 21.

The next new student orientation is Friday, and the final BBQ Visit Day is July 26.

Confirm logo usage for collateral

Faculty and staff who are using Thiel College logos on printed items or online are reminded to send those materials to the Office of Communications and Marketing for review before placing an order with a vendor.

Thiel College-branded resources are available for download.

Email signatures, brand resources, and a job request form are all available online. A Dropbox folder has been set up with instructions and the materials necessary to create new email signatures. Employees can find other Thiel College-branded resources including letterhead, logos and PowerPoint slides in the same folder.

Thiel College community members who need help with communications and marketing initiatives and collateral can now request those services with a job form. The request form is available on the communications and marketing webpage or linked directly below.

Student News

Accounting alumni make it six straight

Professor of Business Administration and Accounting Gary Witsoky ’79 recently announced that for the sixth straight year 100 percent of Thiel College’s accounting students are employed or in graduate school. 

All 11 accounting students have found a position or enrolled in a graduate program. Members of the Class of 2019 are at Villanova and Cleveland State universities and the University of Pittsburgh as well as working at companies such as Ernst & Young and PNC Financial Services and the federal Department of Defense.

Education Chair updates students on Department

Professor of Education and Department Chair Doug Hazlett, Ph.D., updated the students in the Department of Education with an email recently.

He said Assistant Professor of Education and Director of Teacher Education Nancy Castor and Education Services Coordinator and Library Assistant Jenn Lippert have joined him this summer in working on the Pennsylvania Department of Education Major Review.

He also offered students two important reminders.

  • With the exception of incoming first-year students, education majors should complete his/her Pre-service Academic Performance Assessment or Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators.
  • Student teachers and field course students, should be sure to have several appropriate outfits for his/her field assignments.

Tomcat Tributes recognize the teamwork Thiel College employees exhibit each day. Employees can nominate co-workers for recognition in four categories (Random Act of Kindness, Going the Extra Mile, Had a Great Idea, Just Because).

The next edition of Sharon Regional Hospital’s Healthy Steps program is at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 16 at Buhl Park.

Nutrition experts will be available at the walk to discuss healthy eating.

A simple and easy healthy recipe

Lemon Lentil Soup
4 cups vegetable broth
4 carrots, chopped
2 stalks of celery – chopped
¾ tsp of coriander
1 cup red lentils, rinsed and drained
1 ½ cups of chopped green like kale, spinach – swiss chard
¼ cup fresh lemon juice
3 Tbsp raw cashews
2 Tbsp chopped parsley

Directions
Spray bottom of saucepan with cooking spray and place over medium high heat. Sauté carrots, celery and coriander for approx. 5 minutes or until vegetables tender

Add broth and red lentils and bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.

Chop parsley, spinach/greens and set aside. In a food processor, combine lemon juice and cashews to form a cream

When lentils are done, stir in greens and lemon cashew cream; adjust salt and pepper to test.
