Third Annual Martin Luther King Jr. award nominations open

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Thiel College will not be hosting its traditional MLK Award Celebration; but we do want to recognize the work of the students, faculty/staff, and community members. Our theme is “The Celebration of Mindfulness, Love, and Kindness,” and we are accepting nominations for individuals in the following categories from the Tomcat community.

Please note that this nomination will be invalid unless this form has been fully completed.

M.L.K. Student Service Award
The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Student Service Award is presented to students who exhibit integrity and demonstrate a commitment to service through an interest in bettering the lives of others. Their deeds and actions reflect the embodiment of Dr. King’s depth of compassion, the importance of education, and pride in their community.

M.L.K. Faculty/Staff Service Award
The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Faculty/Staff Service Award is given to faculty/staff members who exceed expectations in the area of service to the community, and who embody the principles of leadership outlined by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream. These faculty and staff have volunteered, courageously led efforts in our community, performed extraordinary everyday acts of service, and have shown dedication within the community.

M.L.K. Community Service Award
The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Award does more than honor its recipients. It also further illustrates the great value of service and community involvement at Thiel College. This award acknowledges the dedication of those individuals who demonstrate the principles of the “Tomcat Family Bond.”

Financial Aid office hosting FAFSA session

The first step to cutting a student’s tuition bill is filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

According to an article in Forbes magazine, billions of financial aid dollars go unclaimed each year. The first step to opening access to those resources is the FAFSA.

“The top reasons families don’t file the FAFSA is because they think they won’t qualify for aid,” said Ashley Boucher, spokeswoman for Sallie Mae. “This couldn’t be further from the truth, because nearly all who apply will qualify for something.”

Going the Extra Mile

Nominee: Decwin Waite
Nominator: Damion Grinnell ’24
Comment: When we lost the other full time co-worker on midnights shift Decwin stepped up and filled in so that I could easily manage both work and school. She is always pushing me to do well and stay focused. With her, it is always about helping others.

Communications collateral

Employees should update the logos used on institutional materials, including email signatures, letterhead, PowerPoint slides, etc.

Thiel College has used the shield and wordmark combination as the official institutional logo for more than a year. They are the only approved logo for academic co-curricular and institutional use. Additional athletic logo packages are also available.

Email signatures, brand resources, and a job request form are all available online. A Dropbox folder has been set up with instructions and the materials necessary to create new email signatures. Employees can find other Thiel College-branded resources including letterhead, logos and PowerPoint slides in the same folder.

Thiel College community members who need help with communications and marketing initiatives and collateral can now request those services with a job form. The request form is available on the communications and marketing webpage or linked directly below.

For more information, email the office.
