Temperature screening stations suspended

The College is suspending the requirement for employees, students, and guests to visit a screening station upon arrival to campus. All the members of the Thiel College community should continue to self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms and stay home if they are experiencing any symptoms. The campus will also continue following other safety measures like the wearing of face coverings, increased cleaning and sanitation, and physical distancing recommendations from the Department of Health and CDC.

Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students Mike McKinney ’02 updated the campus community with an email that included a message of gratitude.

“I would like to offer my sincere thanks to everyone who stepped in and helped staff the screening stations throughout the year. The daily check-ins we shared with students as a result of those stations served as important reminders about everyone’s individual role in helping to keep the campus community safe and healthy.  Just as important, the stations also served as a daily reminder to our students of just how much we care about each of them. We could not have offered those stations without everyone’s help, and a special thank you goes out to Monica Adametz for her leadership in coordinating the screening stations throughout the year.”

Traverso addresses campus community

President Susan Traverso, Ph.D., addressed the campus community at the final Thiel News Time campus gathering Wednesday. She thanked the campus community for their efforts during Sunday's two sets of Commencement Exercises and then discussed several important items coming out of the Board of Trustees meeting last weekend.

Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students Mike McKinney ’02 gave a brief update on COVID-19 protocols and case updates. He said the dashboard will not be updated while students are not on campus.

Traverso also said the campus community should be ready for a busy Homecoming and a different kind of summer on campus, which includes the first class of physician assistant studies students. Traverso also encouraged faculty and staff members to take a vacation this summer.

Wednesday’s online meeting is the last scheduled campus gathering until the campus retreat in August.

An enrollment update was also given.

Classroom named for Bob and Judy Schmoll

Senior Vice President for Finance and Management Bob Schmoll is retiring at the end of June. During one of the meetings this weekend, he was surprised with the announcement that a classroom in the Graduate Floor of Rhodehouse Science Building had been dedicated to Bob and Judy Schmoll.

Maintenance update and work order request

Scott Morgan will be serving as Interim Assistant Director of Facilities.

Office hours for the department are 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fridays.

For emergencies during office hours call ext. 2175 and for any routine issues, submit an online work order.

For emergencies in off-hours, call Public Safety at ext. 2222.

Work orders can be submitted at any time. Work orders are an extremely important tool for the department to function efficiently. They are also useful for the person submitting the work order. The status of work orders will be updated as checkpoints are passed. It might be easy to brief a staff member about an issue, but to ensure work requests are scheduled in a timely manner, the work order submission puts it in a queue to be addressed in an appropriate and timely manner.

For more information, contact Brandy Little at ext. 2175.

IT is looking at May 17, 18, 19 as the dates to upgrade PowerCAMPUS and Self-Service. The plan would be to start the database and server upgrade process on Saturday, May 15 with carryover to Sunday, May 16 if needed. Then Monday IT would upgrade all the computers that use the PowerCAMPUS client. If the process goes smoothly, PowerCAMPUS/Self-Service would be offline for one workday.
