    Alumni Stories

    Caitlin (McKenna) Degnan ’04
High School Spanish Teacher, Canonsburg, Pa.

"I [had the opportunity to be] an SI leader (Supplemental Instruction) for the Spanish Department. I worked with the professors from the department to create valuable and meaningful review lessons for the students who took advantage of the program. It was during [that] time that I [realized] I wanted to be a high school Spanish teacher. Also, a study abroad experience during my junior year in Madrid, Spain, really made a significant impact on me and changed my life as a result. It was one of the best times of my life."

    Chris Shinkman ’62
Board of Directors and Buck/Cardinal Club, Stanford University, Bethesda, Md.

"I [earned my] degree in French from Thiel in 1962. Subsequently, as a college and university career counselor I was frequently asked about the relationship between undergraduate major and career. In 40 years, nobody has ever been able to guess my major. I found this to be an easy way to remind [those I advise] that a broad-based liberal arts degree is preparation for a variety of [careers]."
