Lambda Pi Eta

Lambda Pi Eta is the official communication honor society of the National Communication Association (NCA). The Thiel chapter was approved in 1996 by NCA and is designated as Delta Nu.

To become a member, students must:

Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 for all courses taken at Thiel
Have a GPA of at least 3.25 in required communication courses
Academically, be in the upper 35 percent of their class
Have completed 12 semester hours in required communication studies course work
Currently be enrolled as a full-time student in good standing

The purposes of Lambda Pi Eta are:

To recognize, foster, and reward outstanding scholastic achievement in communication studies
To stimulate interest in the field of communication
To promote and encourage professional development among communication majors
To provide an opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas in the field of communication
To establish and maintain closer relationships and mutual understanding between speech communication studies faculty and students
To explore options for graduate education in communication studies

Society for Collegiate Journalists

The Society for Collegiate Journalists is a National Honor Society of Collegiate Mass Communications. It is the nation’s oldest organization designed solely to serve college journalists. SCJ was formed when Pi Delta Epsilon, which was founded in 1909, merged with Alpha Phi Gamma, which was founded in 1919.

To become a member, students must:

Have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.8 for all courses taken at Thiel
Have participated in some capacity within the Thiel campus media, including newspaper, radio, television and/or yearbook.
Currently be enrolled as a full-time student in good standing

The purposes of the Society for Collegiate Journalists are to:

Improve the quality of student media at the college level
Teach the ethics, techniques and mechanics of such media and encourage student participation
Promote the understanding of and the support of freedom of student expression, including freedom of speech and press for all college students

Campus Media

Student media is an important facet of student life at Thiel College, especially for students in the Department of Media, Communication and Public Relations. These groups provide entertainment and information to the Thiel campus as well as providing hands-on experience in media communication for students. Activities include the Thielensian student newspaper, TCTV student television station, WXTC 88.1 FM student radio station, Tomcast Productions and Photography Club.
